PS3 YLOD
« on: Nov 21/09, 12:48:46 AM »
My PS3 got the "Yellow Light of Death" a few hours ago. It happend while I was playing Modern Warfare 2. System just unexpectedly shut-off during the middle of gameplay without warning. My PS3 is a 60GB launch original, so it's old. I'll be sending it away for repairs soon, just waiting for my shipping box.

It might end up being a long week or two... but honestly, as long as it's back by Christmas!

 :o :(

lol, I never posted back an update here.

My PS3 service was super quick, I was really happy with it. The shipping box was delivered the next business day after I called in for service, and I got it back 3 days after shipping it. They did "some" repair to the motherboard, and it works like new. They sent me back my MW2 disc that was stuck inside too.

Only complaint was that I never made backups of my PS3 system (game saves, downloads, ect.) so everything was erased. Although, thats my fault as an HDD wipe is standard procedure for them. I would have liked to backup my saves before sending it but YLOD won't allow you to turn it back on to do so.

Well, that's good to hear, still sucks that you lost your game saves and stuff.

I got the YLOD not too long ago, myself.. Once I gather all the materials together, which will probably be after my move back to GA, I'll be cracking into the system to fix it myself. There's tutorials online, and this way, I'd avoid the memory wipe. :) Fallout 3 got stuck in there.. :(

Ya, not too long after I got mine fixed, one of my friends had it happen to him and sure enough he was able to fix it himself. Of course, then he immediately made a backup of his HDD and traded it in for a new slim :P
